Disney Parks Pin Releases for Week of July 15th-July 21

Happy Birthday, Disneyland!

As we enter the mid-summer stretch, one new Disney Pin release takes center stage at stores throughout the Disneyland Resort parks.

While I am uncertain of the design significance of the 58th Anniversary pin, this looks suspiciously like a homage to the pressed pennies that are available through penny-smashing machines throughout both Disneyland and California Adventure.

Pressed penny machines made their debut in 1987, which would have them celebrating their 26th anniversary within the Disneyland park.

DL0001 and DL0002…I think.

The photo above is above is of the first two Disneyland penny press machine marquees.  They were placed “on-stage” at Disneyland in 1987 and are the first Disney penny press machines…ever!  These machines are an amazing piece of Disneyland history.  The two coins dispensed, DL0001 and DL0002 are highly sought-after by collectors.

Wanna see the first Disney penny every pressed?

BAM!    This is widely known as the first-ever penny to be smashed by the first-ever penny smashing machine.  Gotta love it.  I wonder how much it is worth?  At LEAST a penny!

Parkpennies.com is an amazing site dedicated to the yet another great Disney collecting hobby.  Much like Disney pin collector, penny collectors are very passionate about their hobby and have poured a ton of time and effort into creating a great online resource for collectors.  Check it out!

  1. The pin is actually based on the first cast member badges that were used when Disneyland first opened. Instead of the cast member’s name on the badge, they used the cast member’s employee number. Walt’s badge was number 1.
BTW, I really enjoy your updates. You are a terrific writer!
